TRUE is not only a new book by Erin McCarthy but also a new genre. She breaks into the New Adult genre with this book, and I’m happy to say she does it well.
College Sophomore Rory Macintosh is a the shy, geeky, socially awkward type, so it should have been no surprise to her roommates that she was still a virgin at twenty years old. But when she informed them of this fact during a night of drinking, Rory didn’t expect them to hire local bad boy hottie Tyler Mann to deflower her.
Tyler hasn’t had the best life by a long shot, but he’s trying to turn his life around. Although he thinks he’s not good enough for her, Rory interests him and he wants to get to know her better. And as friendship turns into to something more between the two of them, both Rory and Tyler experience a love that’s greater than either of them expected. When trouble lands in Tyler’s lap, Rory has to make a decision that could risk everything for her.
I have to say that this story was quite an unexpected surprise. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. However, I just fell in love with the geeky Rory and bad boy Tyler. They were such a great couple. I loved to see how each of them bloomed while they were together.
If I had to pick my most favorite thing about the story though, it wouldn’t be Tyler or Rory though. It would definitely be Tyler’s little brothers, Jayden and Easton. They were so adorable you couldn’t help but fall in love with them. It really ticked me off that they were stuck in the life they were living, but they such great characters.
One thing that I didn’t particularly like was the ending. There was a lot left in the air in my opinion. It would have been nice for there to have been an epilogue or something just to know how everyone ended up. But, it looks like we Erin McCarthy is going to make this into a series so hopefully we’ll get to see more of this couple in the future, and more of Tyler’s family.
Overall though a solid read. I’m relatively new to the New Adult genre, but TRUE certainly has been one of the better ones I’ve read. I’ve been a fan of Erin McCarthy adult contemporary romances, and it looks like I’ll be breaking into the New Adult world with her as well.
