Like Water for Chocolate - Thomas Christensen, Carol Christensen, Laura Esquivel
I guess I'm in the minority here, even among my Goodreads friends, but I did not like this story at all. I felt like the magical realism was not realism at all--it was just too over the top. I didn't particularly like the main characters. And the one person I did like (John the doctor) was relegated to a life alone poor guy.

I thought Pedro was selfish and manipulative by marrying Tita's sister and keeper her just close enough that she was not able to move on. I don't think that's true love at all. I thought that it was poetic justice that just when they were able to be together free and clear, he died! LOL.

This was just a miss for me but I'm glad that I read it, so I could know that for myself.
