*3.5 STARS*
SEARCHING FOR SOMEDAY by Jennifer Probst was definitely a cute contemporary romance. I enjoyed reading it over my holiday break, and it kept my interest going throughout. However, I thought there were parts that were over-the-top and kept me from giving it a 4 STAR rating I would have given otherwise.
This is the story of Kate Seymour, who is one of the owners of Kinnections matchmaking service. She loves that she's been able to pair so many couples with her special "touch" that shows when people are soul mates, but she's given up on love for herself. That is until Slade Montgomery shows up in her office.
Slade Montgomery knows love is an illusion. As a divorce attorney, he sees what so-called "love" can do to people. So when he finds out his sister is signed up for a matchmaking service, he's determined to show that the owners of Kinnections are frauds. What he wasn't ready for was Kate Seymour or the electric spark they seem to generate every time they touch.
But, Kate believes in HEA and Slade knows there is no such thing. They couldn't be more wrong for each other if they tried. However, fate, it seems, has other ideas.
SEARCHING FOR SOMEDAY was certainly a fun read. There were a ton of aspects that I enjoyed. I really liked Slade and Kate's characters. I liked Slade's sister, Jane, as well as Kate's business partners and best friends, Arilynn and Kennedy. I liked the storyline. I liked the romance and the chemistry between our hero and heroine.
What detracted from the story, in my opinion, were some of the plot points. For example Kate, who was supposed to be an expert of relationships had little to no experience herself. I guess you could say that she was waiting for the person who would make her experience "the touch" for herself, but, it just didn't ring true.
But, I was still at a four star throughout the book. I didn't bump it down to 3.5 stars until I read the epilogue. As much as I loved Robert the dog in the story, I just felt like the changing the story to his point of view for the epilogue was a bit over-the-top. It came out of nowhere in my opinion, and seemed to saccharine for the rest of the story.
I was still cheering for Slade and Kate throughout the entire story, devoured it in 1 day, and am looking forward to the second book in the series. I can't wait to see what Kennedy gets into in her book.
