American Gods: The Tenth Anniversary Edition - Neil Gaiman

This is a big departure for me. I'm usually into the romance genre, but I listened to this for a challenge over on GR and I'm glad I did.  I could have chosen a book closer to what I usually read, but I am interested in books based on mythology after reading the Iron Druid Chronicles books.

So, here I am reading this insanely popular book by this completely famous author and I just.didn't.get it.  I just didn't.  The first hour or so of listening, I just didn't get what the fuss was about.  I actually stopped listening to it and went on to another book because i just didn't get why it was so popular.

But then, things started to change.  I don't even know why.  I think it was when we met Laura...again, or when we met the god of the internet.  I'm not sure, but I became immensely interested in Shadow and Mr. Wednesday.  I was surprised by who Mr. Wednesday was and who he was to Shadow, but it just added to the intricacies of the story that made me sit up and take notice.

The one thing that got to me was so weak Shadow seemed in spirit throughout the majority of the book. He just went along.  It drove me crazy.  I was glad to see he finally took a stand.

Anyway, I liked the characters I met, and I look forward to reading more of Mr. Gaiman's work.
